Soludo Alleges Inducement Of Voters, Card Reader Malfunction

The Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) candidate in the Anambra governorship election, Godwin Ezeemo, has accused officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of plotting to alienate his supporters.

Ezeemo expressed his displeasure, yesterday, when he arrived his polling unit at Social Centre ward 11. Upon not finding any INEC official or material, he said: “It is unfortunate. This is to disenfranchise my supporters. I am seriously worried. I am raising the alarm. I am saying something is wrong.”

Meanwhile, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has alleged inducement of voters by some politicians and malfunctioning of the card reader machine at his constituency, Ofiyi Square ward 002.

Soludo, who spoke with The Guardian on phone, said he was disillusioned by the discovery. He was yet to cast his vote as at 10.30 a.m. The ward’s presiding officer, Mary Jane Odoye, however said the machine had been faulty until she invited INEC officials who repaired it.

Sandra Amarachi Amen, the presiding officer of Agulu 11 ward of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, said materials came at 9.25 a.m. and that there were no problems.

Though Peter Obi was yet to arrive and cast his vote at about 1 p.m., when The Guardian left the booth, many voters were seen at the unit. Some complained that the process was slow.

At 9.30 a.m., voting at Nanka booth in Orumba North Local Council was yet to commence, while voters were seen casting their ballots at Achina ward in Aguata Local Council.
