The Oyo State branch of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has described plans of the main opposition in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win the 2019 elections as “mere hallucination.”

APC’s spokesman, AbdulAzeez Olatunde, in a statement yesterday, claimed that PDP Southwest told its supporters that the party would win in the next election in the state, when the Ward Congresses Committee visited the state during the weekend.

Olatunde said, “PDP members should wake up from their slumber because their party is on ‘ life-support in Oyo State,” stressing that last weekend’s exercise was a ruse in conduct and reality, as there was a subsisting court order against it.

“Apart from being hugely manipulated with “field winners”, who were denied certificate of returns in preference for the anointed ones by the power that be, a Federal High Court judgment in Ado-Ekiti last Wednesday 18th October recognized a Southwest Zonal Executive of PDP led by Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe instead of Eddy Oyefeso-led one recognised by the Ahmed Makarfi Executive in Abuja. The suit number of the judgment is FHC/AD/CS/18/2017. This thus made last Saturday’s ward congresses a mere jamboree.”

The statement also claimed that discerning members of the opposition in the state have pitched their tents with the ruling party and that it (APC) will unveil certain political big wigs  in the state who are set to dump PDP for the APC.

Olatunde further claimed that those that dumped the opposition for the APC are former governor Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala,  Sen. Teslim Folarin, a former Senate Leader, Hon Kamil Akinlabi, a former member Federal House of Representatives and Hon Asimiyu Alarape, former Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly.

Others he mentioned are Chief Mrs. Kemi Olorunsogo, former Commissioner of Industry, Chief Mrs. Beatrice Olufunke, former Oyo State Accord Party women leader, Hon. Akeem Yinka Taiwo, former Oyo State PDP Chairman, Alh Bashiru Akanbi, former Oyo State PDP Secretary, Hon Akogun Akeem Olatunji, former Caretaker Chairman Ibadan South East LG, Hon Adewale Adeleke, former Caretaker Chairman Ogbomoso South Local Government and others.

The statement claimed that the ‘’defecting’’ political personalities who he described as ‘’people of substance’’ are attracted by the landmark achievements of the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

Efforts to reach members of the newly constituted caretaker committee of the state PDP for reaction to the statement were abortive, as they could not be reached.
