Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi has reassured workers that his administration would not retrench any worker over the present unfavourable economic climate.

He however maintained that his administration would embark on redeployment and reorganization of the state public service in line with the present economic realities.

Ajimobi who spoke at the annual inter faith prayers for civil servants held at the car park of the governor’s office, said the reduction of ministries from 23 to 13 by his administration was not to retrench workers but to make workers highly productive, efficient and effective.
He pointed out that the reorganisation would lead to re-deployment, re-engagement and redistribution of workers and help in placing them in areas where they would be more productive and impactful.

He said, “ the economic phenomenon accompanied by the reduction in allocations from the Federal Government has adversely affected every sector of governmental activities. The resultant effect is the inability of many State Governments to promptly pay the salaries of workers as at when due. Even in that situation, Oyo State rose to find an ameliorable solution to the persistent problem. There has been constant dialoguing with the Labour to arrive at an agreed method of utilising the meagre resources available to the State on monthly basis”.

Pragmatic steps are now being taken to reduce the level of dependency on Abuja in terms of monthly allocation from the Federation Accounts. The State Board of Internal Revenue is being restructured for efficiency and effectiveness. The reinvigorated Board of Internal Revenue will ensure that all leakages are blocked and untapped revenue sources are opened up. There will be greater activities in the area of agribusiness. The level of making Oyo State prepared destination for investors will be improved upon.”

Ajimobi then urged workers to brace up for the challenges of raising the bar of good governance most especially in the improvement of Internally Generated Revenue.
