Ondo governorship aspirant kidnapped in Abuja

Barely 48 hours after the declaration of his ambition to contest the 2016 governorship election in Ondo State, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, Victor Olabimtan has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

Party condemns abduction
Barely 48 hours after the declaration of his ambition to contest the 2016 governorship election in Ondo State, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, Victor Olabimtan has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

It was gathered that Olabimtan was abducted on Sunday evening at Kwale, near Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on his way to Abuja.

His campaign media director, Ayo Ogedengbe, disclosed that the former Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, was abducted at a road block manned by fake soldiers
“He was kidnapped in Kwale on his way to Abuja, near Gwagwalada, stopped at a roadblock where men in military uniform; and he thought they were real military men and they kidnapped him.”

Ogedengbe stated that the family members have not been contacted by kidnappers to ascertain the motive for such dastardly act, but informed that the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Command are after the culprits.

He claimed to have been briefed that one of the abductors have been killed by the police, who are seriously on their chase.
Meanwhile, the APC in Ondo State has condemned the abduction of Olabimtan, expressing concern over the development

The party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro in a statement said, “We are deeply concerned and sad that one of our esteemed Nigerians is in this trouble and would like to appeal to the security agencies to expedite action on his rescue.”
“The kidnappers have made contact with the Victor Olabimtan Initiative for Change and Emancipation and are demanding N20M ransom for his release. We however seek the support of all Nigerians in prayers to ensure his rescue.
“Our deepest sympathy goes to his family at this trying time as we continue to appeal to Nigerians to continue to condemn and denounce such act in our society, and to be of assistance to security agencies to stem this tide of evil in our country,” he said.
