Okowa assures PDP aspirants of credible primaries in Delta
The camps of a former governorship candidate in Delta Great Great Ogboru and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, allegedly opted out of the ‘unity list’ adopted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in congress.
It was leant that they held parallel congresses in the 25 local councils in the state. But, a governorship aspirant in the upcoming polls, Victor Ochei, has described the congress as largely peaceful
This was confirmed by another party leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, who said the adoption of the unity list contributed to the success of the congress.The Guardian learnt that the outcome of the congresses were harmonised before the official result were announced to avoid a further rift in the party.
The local government congress was relatively peaceful across the state, except at Oleh in Isoko area where a faction of the party reportedly attacked members of another camp. The violence was said to have begun when irate mobs attacked a faction of the APC, led by Maikpobi Okareme, Omoviro Williams, Onaimo Luis and Ote Peter.
The faction was said to have planned to conduct parallel congress at the residence of the late Senator Spanner Okpozo, before they were attacked.In Ughelli, Udu, Sapele, Uviwe, local government areas, as well as in Delta Central and Aniocha North, Agbor, the congress were said to be peaceful.Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has assured the governorship aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of credible primaries in the state.
Okowa made the pledge at the weekend in Asaba, the state capital during a meeting with stakeholders in the Delta North Senatorial district.The assurance became necessary following allegations that the PDP imposed some candidates and rigged the contest in favour of some candidates.The Chairman of PDP in the district, Mr. Moses Iduh commended the governor for the successful conduct of the Ekiti PDP governorship primaries.
