Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has said Nigeria has no alternative to President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming presidential election in 2019.

Speaking exclusively to The Guardian, he debunked allegations making the rounds that the political leader of the state, Senator George Akume was planning to defect to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) insisting the Senator is in charge of Buhari’s re- election campaign in the North Central zone of the country.

Ortom restated his resolve to fully support the President’s reelection in 2019 and encouraged Nigerians to queue behind Buhari to enable him continue the good work of repositioning the country for rapid development through his purposeful leadership.

Reacting to the resignation former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the All Progressives Congress, APC, he said the move would not affect the chances of the party in Benue and Nigeria, noting that Atiku as an individual had the freedom to associate or express himself in anyway he deemed fit.

While commenting on the Implementation of the anti-open grazing law in the state, Governor Ortom recalled his earlier position that the implementation would wear a human face since the law is new, but emphasized that infringement on any section of the law would be met with the full wrath of the law, disclosing that people who violated the law were already being prosecuted.

He said the state is committed to meeting the key expectation of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG’s through diversification of the state economy into agriculture, industries and provision of infrastructure.

The governor expressed optimism that his administration is on the right track warning that there is no room for any form of criminality as the state was placing a high premium on the safety and security of all residents.
