Minority leader, Ojo emerges speaker of Oyo assembly
The Minority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Joshua Olagunju Ojo, yesterday emerged the new speaker of the Assembly.
Ojo, 67 who represents Oriire State Constituency on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) succeeded Mr. Michael Adeyemo, who died on April 27, this year.
He was nominated by Joshua Oyebamiji (APC-Akinyele I) and Gbenga Oyekola (LP-Atiba) after a 20-minute executive session by selected leaders in the assembly.
In his acceptance speech, Ojo, who was a former Deputy Speaker in the fourth Assembly (1999-2003) promised to work in harmony with other members of the House.
He charged the lawmakers to be mindful of their conducts and actions, as they were constantly under public scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ademola Ige (Accord-Ibadan South East II) has emerged the new Minority Leader of the assembly.
Ige, who was nominated by Akande and Oyatokun Oyeleke of Afijio state constituency, promised to uphold the good work of the legislature.
The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has commended the House for a rancor-free election of the new Speaker.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, pledged the full support of the executive to the new speaker.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State government has allayed the residents of fear of earthquake, especially in the Oke-Ogun area.
It said the land shaking that was mistaken to be earthquake last month was due to force exploration, leading to meteorite breakages of Galatica Rock in the earth surface.
The government said samples of the meteorite had been sent to the Department of Geology, University of Ibadan for analysis.
The Special Adviser to Governor Ajimobi on Solid Minerals, Mathew Oyedokun, explained that on April 19, a solid piece of debris from an object such as a comet, asteroid or meteoroid survived its way through the atmosphere to reach the surface of the earth.
