Kano, Lagos to hold legislative summit

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje yesterday unfolded plans by his government to organise a legislative summit in collaboration with Lagos State.

The proposed summit, according to Ganduje will enable the two states foster legislative ideals and innovations that could engender good governance and human development.

The just concluded Lagos-Kano Economic and Investment Summit held at Epe Resort, Lagos, opened a wide opportunity for economic and investment viabilities that the two most populous states in Nigeria could explore.

Ganduje who made the disclosure during a capacity building on legislation, House Rules and Proceedings, organized by Kano State House of Assembly in collaboration with Legis 37 Nigeria, noted that the two legislatures possessed comparative advantage that will benefit both states.

He acknowledged that both Assemblies have similar traits in common advocating symbiotic and working relationship to build viral developments.

Ganduje added that most of the areas of economic, commerce and investment interests, which both Kano and Lagos signed during the last summit, still required legislative intervention.

He therefore challenged the two legislatures “to initiate human-oriented legislations that will be centred at both human and infrastructural development.

“Kano State House of Assembly is interested in some legislation of the Lagos State House of Assembly and vice versa. It is noteworthy to begin to understand that we are into serious business of good governance.”

The governor gave assurance that he would do everything possible to see to the effective and efficient partnership between Kano and Lagos State Houses of Assembly.

Speaker of the Kano Assembly, Abdullahi Ata Fagge said the training was organized to review the standing rules of the legislature, which was last updated ten years ago. 

Represented by his Deputy, Engineer Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, the Speaker hinted that the proposed legislative summit between Kano and Lagos will enhance overall development of both states.
