Senator Shehu Sani

A group, the Concerned Indigenes of Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has said that it is set to initiate the process of recalling Senator Shehu Sani from the Senate over his unrelenting criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The spokesperson/chairman of the group, Alhaji Aliyu Saidu Rigachikun, said that the group was poised to make sure that Senator Sani’s unpatriotic criticism of President Buhari and Governor El-Rufai is put to an end.

He said: “What is surprising is that instead of investing his legislative resources and privileges towards deepening our legislative culture and uplifting the conditions of his constituency, he has become the poster boy of President Buhari’s enemies, always amplifying the challenges we are facing while ignoring the progress the Buhari led-administration is making to portray the government as incompetent and clueless.

“Senator Shehu Sani has not only betrayed his constituency, he has declared war on them. This is because we the people of Kaduna Central unanimously support Buhari in his effort to fix the economy and rid Nigeria of corruption and insecurity.”

But Sani, in a swift response, described the group as sponsored thugs and rabble-rousers paid to dance for lip service.

He, however, called on Governor El-Rufai “to stop hiding behind fake groups and wait for 2019.”

Sani, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Politics, Suleiman Ahmed, said the move to recall him was one of the tactics usually employed by the governor to frustrate politicians crossing his path.

He said those criticising his opposition against President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to provide good governance to Nigerians and Governor El-Rufai’s poor performance could not instigate his recall from the National Assembly.

“What were they doing to think of recall in less than a year to general elections. Where have they been since?” he said.

The group, which said the recall process became imperative as the senator kept undermining the development of Kaduna State and Nigeria at large, said: “We send Senator Shehu Sani to work towards the success of the Buhari government and not work in direct opposition to it.

“It is regrettable that the party has failed to call Senator Shehu Sani to order for his open belligerence against the government and our great party. No individual, no matter how highly platooned, is above the party.”
