Ekiti deputy governor seeks support in guber poll

Ahead of the scheduled July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State, the incumbent Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola has urged the state’s electorate to vote massively for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for continuity of the developmental projects being executed by the administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Kolapo, who is also the preferred governorship candidate of the PDP endorsed by his principal said it is imperative of the people to return his party in the coming governorship election, saying, “The PDP has been more beneficial to Ekiti than the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).” 

Explaining how he plans to govern the state if elected, Olusola said, “90 per cent of the projects adorning Ekiti were executed by the PDP administrations.”

The Director of Press and Strategy, Kolapo Olusola Campaign Organisation (KOCO), Mr. Kamil Ishola who communicated the message to the media in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, said, “In the history of Ekiti, the PDP governments had been beneficial to the people than the APC administrations, it is therefore necessary to allow the benefits and the good works of the ruling party continue.”

According to him, “We are all witnesses to what happened in Ekiti State from 1999 to 2003 and how the tenure of those who are now chieftains of the APC plunged our state into debts. 

“If not for Governor Fayose from 2003 to 2006, which took over and cleared the entire debts incurred by his predecessor, Ekiti would have been down. The governor also left over N10 billion in the state’s treasury while leaving office in 2006.

“The PDP administration that succeeded Fayose did not also borrow a dime until erstwhile APC governor, Mr. Kayode Fayemi took over and left the state reeling in huge debts. It is those huge debts of the immediate past governor that the incumbent is contending with. We thank God that despite the initial setback, the governor has been able to execute a number of legacy projects that have changed the landscape of the state.”

The governorship contender also boasted that Fayose has, by overwhelming performance, set unmatched records in the governance of the state, and therefore deserves good support from the people by returning PDP.

Recounting the achievements of Fayose, the deputy governor said some of the legacy projects of the incumbent administration are the flyover, the new Governor’s Office, the judiciary complex, the new Ojaba Market, the dualization of Ikere-Ado Road, the dualization of roads across local government headquarters and others.

According to him, “These are projects that have positively impacted on the development of the state and her people. Continuity is very germane to Ekiti this time, and I am urging the electorate to vote for me so that this legacy can continue.”

Clearing the controversies surrounding his endorsement by the governor, Olusola said, “Like other PDP governorship aspirants, we will all be subjected to the primary of the party and the leadership of the party has assured of a level playing field in the exercise.”
