CITING opaqueness in remittances to members, the Edo State chapter of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has petitioned the state House of Assembly over the activities of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON).

The association, in the petition signed by its secretary, Willy Nova, contended that COSON’s briefings were already enshrined in Rule 3 (h) of PMAN constitution.

The scribe said his association was registered by the Federal Government on August 15, 1984 to perform the roles, wondering why COSON was usurping that function without adequate remittance to copyright owners.
“We appeal to Mr. Speaker and other honourable members to intervene in this matter and stop COSON from the illegal collections” and be compelled to render account for all the money they had collected.

Meanwhile, PMAN has said it was proposing a multi-billion naira entertainment village that would act both as revenue earner for the state and a one-stop point for entertainment activities that would boast of music and film schools, health facilities, sport centres and other needs for musicians and entertainers.

The hint was dropped stated when the state chairman, Maleke Idowu led other members of the organisation during a courtesy visit to the state secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) where they were received by the state chairman, Sir Roland Osakue.
Idowu said the proposal and prototype for the project had been presented to the state government.
