Cross River communities express fear over voters’ registration by INEC

Some communities in Cross River state have expressed fears that most of its members may not be captured in the current INEC Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise.

But the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Frankland Briyai said there was no cause for alarm as INEC is going the extra mile to ensure that all legible voters in the state are captured.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Aviation and an indigene of Abu community in Boki Local Government Area, Mr. Amos Kajang said just one machine was provided for thousands of people, adding that, “This is a ploy by the APC government and Northern oligarchy to depopulate the south. The machine they brought is not even modern. If millions are given to INEC, what is the cost of a machine that a whole local government will have two machines only?”

Briyai defended himself, saying registration of voters was done in three phases that ended in December and between April and now, INEC registered 188,000 voters even though provisions were not made for registration in polling units and wards due to finances “but we tried our best to register people.”
