Following the debacle between the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and the national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the incumbent’s scuttled second term bid, the standard bearer of the state’s chapter of Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), Mr. Abiodun Dabiri, has urged the electorate to vote the ruling party out of power in the coming election.

Dabiri, who was reacting to the controversial primary organised by the Lagos chapter of APC yesterday, said the ruling party and the incumbent have not only demonstrated a lack of focus and commitment to the common good of the people of Lagos but have also shown in character that the interest of the masses does not take priority in their thinking.

According to him, “What we need in Lagos is a better, committed and focus party with God fearing standard bearer to develop the state. The 19 years of APC rule in Lagos is not just a setback but it has not also added value to the citizens.”Dabiri, who spoke with The Guardian over the phone yesterday, said what is happening in the party today requires the electorate to stand up against them in the next governorship election.

He stressed: “As much as I believe that the incumbent has performed woefully since 2015, I also do not approve of a godfather who has pocketed the mind and souls of the state and in deciding who rules us everytime. With the kind of desperation and counter-desperation currently being demonstrated by the governor, his godfather and their faithful, it is important for the citizens of the state to vote them out of power. We also need to interrogate what the party claimed to have achieved in Lagos in the last 19 years.”

He posited that the soul of Lagos needed to be salvaged from APC next year adding, “The party has not only failed but the Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is being branded as an alternative to Ambode would definitely add no value to us because he has been part of the system. “The revelation currently coming out should send a strong signal to the electorate in Lagos that the party in power does not mean well for the state.”He also said was is right time Lagos discarded the nonsense called political godfather, which he claimed has held the development of Lagos to a standstill in the last 19 years.
