National chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun has urged the party supporters to ignore those casting aspersions on President Muhammadu Buhari and the party saying APC-led administration came to heal the wounds of Nigerians.

Odigie-Oyegun who spoke in Lokoja at a mega rally to receive defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC was apparently referring to ‎former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo’s and Ibrahim Babangida’s letters, as well as the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria (CBCN)’s advice to the President.

He described President Buhari as the messiah that has come to liberate the country.

While receiving some defectors in Kogi State into the APC from the PDP he said: “They say we are quarreling in APC, they say we are fighting but everyday serious people are trouping into the party, the winning and progressive fold with the change agenda.”

He scored the Buhari administration high for its courage to diversify the nation’s economy from oil based to agro-based economy within two years.

Odigie-Oyegun admitted that although Nigerians have been facing hard times in the country, people have also been saying a lot of senseless things about the party and about the President.

Meanwhile, Odigie-Oyegun, some national leaders and the six governors slated to attend the party’s rally in Minna, Niger State, were absent at the rally.

Also, all the states Houses of Assembly members in the state walked out of the rally that was scheduled for 1pm but did not commence until 3pm when it became clear that national chieftains of the party and the governors may not attend.

The hallmark of the rally was the reception of 34 defectors from the PDP. They include former PDP executive and some commissioners in the last administration, among others.

Speaking to the defectors at the pre-rally meeting, Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello attributed the rising popularity of the APC in the state to strict adherence to the principles of party supremacy.
