APC appoints appeal committees’ members ahead of state congresses

• Ebonyi chapter rejects zoning, tasks Buhari on Onu
• Crisis deepens in Taraba, Imo over council exercise

Ahead of tomorrow’s All Progressives Congress (APC) states congresses, the John Odigie-Oyegun-led national working committee (NWC) has appointed several chieftains of the party to oversee the affairs of the exercise across the country.

Three-member committees were also inaugurated to entertain complaints and appeals that may arise from the congresses.

Those appointed state congress chairmen are: Pius Odubu (Adamawa); Gen. Danjuma Danbazzau (Taraba); Prince Austin Eweka (Kano); Domingo Obende (Niger); Jonathan Zwingina (Abia); Olugbenga Obadara (Delta); Uche Ekwunife (Lagos); Matthew Omegara (Ondo); Peter Obadan (Ogun) and Abdullahi Gwarzo (Oyo), among others.

The Appeal committees have, among others, Chris Akoma as chairman (Ebonyi State); Gbenga Elegbeleye (Rivers); Bashir Lado (Ogun); Abubakar Maikudi (Bauchi); Jerry Ugog (Kano) and Kogolo Peter (Imo).

APC National Organising Secretary, Osita Izunaso, who inaugurated the committees on behalf of Odigie-Oyegun, said the exercise must be conducted in conformity with the official APC guidelines for state congresses.

Also, the Ebonyi State chapter of the party has rejected the zoning formula adopted by the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu-led faction, describing the move as undemocratic.

The party in a statement after its State Working Committee/Stakeholders meeting in Abakaliki, the state Chairman, Ben Nwobasi and Publicity Secretary of the party, Ngaji Nwodo, condemned the minister’s action, saying that he (Onu) had lost political relevance in the state.

It urged President Mohammad Buhari to call Onu to order, insisting that the minister has no structure on ground to lead the party.

In a related development, the Taraba State chapter has called for the postponement of the state congress slated for Saturday, May 19, saying it has become a source of concern to a faction of the party.
