Another APGA faction elects flagbearer for Anambra guber poll

Another faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has elected Dr. Igwebuike Ifeanyichukwu Hygers as its flagbearer for the November 18, guber polls in Anambra State.

This is coming six days after Governor Willie Obiano emerged the governorship candidate of the Chief Victor Oye-led faction of the party held August 15, at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, Anambra State.

However, the Martin Agbaso-led faction on Monday, August 21, elected Dr. Hygers who scored a total of 1, 547 votes to emerge as the party’s flag bearer, at its special state congress/primaries held at Ezilo Central School field in Orumba South council area of the state.

The primaries, which adopted the option A4 system of voting, was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as APGA delegates from the national secretariat in Abuja led by the National Vice Chairman of the party (South East zone), Prince Stanley Ukaga.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Igwebuike commended all the APGA members , especially the executive for the trust reposed on him, aw as as thanking them for attending the event.

He called for their support, just as he promised to take the party to the next level and to run an all-inclusive government if elected.

Igwebuike, who is the National President of the Catholic Charismatic Movement, described the primaries conducted by the Victor Oye faction as unconstitutional and an illegality.

“The primary election conducted by the Victor Oye group on 15th August which produced Chief Willie Obiano as governorship candidate of this party is illegal and unconstitutional. The exercise should not be taken serious because Victor Oye did not have the backing of the law as national chairman as at 15th August when the primaries was held”, he said, adding that Anambra will have a good taste of true democratic governance under his administration.

In his speech after the exercise, the National Vice Chairman of the party, Prince Ukaga, congratulated the party for what he described as peaceful primaries, and called on the party supporters to work together and retain the Anambra Government House for APGA.

Ukaga, who was the chairman of primaries committee, described Dr. Igwebuike as a credible human being, assuring that Anambra people would heave a sigh of relieve under Dr. Igwebuike’s administration.

He said,”Today, APGA has buried all its differences and has elected a man who will move the state forward if elected as governor. I will urge the party supporters to come together to help deliver the candidate on 17th November this year”.
