Anambra PDP to sanction erring members
•APC commences sales of forms for guber poll
Ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has threatened to sanction its members romancing other political parties, even as they were warned to stop such anti-party acts.
State Chairman of the party, Ken Emeakayi who gave the warning in Awka, during a stakeholders’ meeting, observed that some members whom he did not mention, were found to be already romancing with other political parties in the state.
Declaring that such actions were instrumental to the failure of the party in the past, he said the PDP would not condone any person romancing or hobnobbing with the APGA, APC or any other party in the state.
“Although we threw our doors open, that won’t stop the party from wielding the big stick on any defaulter, including myself,” he warned.
He disclosed that the ward congress will hold in all the 326 wards in the state on August 8 and 19th respectively, during which three delegates would be nominated to represent the state at the national convention of the party.
Emeakayi however explained that the protracted crisis that rocked the party was necessary because, according to him, “it assisted in rebuilding, restructuring and repositioning the party both in the state and Nigeria at large.
“The party has promised a N1million offer to party officials with the highest number of voters in each of the 326 wards in the state, ahead of the November 18 governorship election.
“The party has fixed August 10 for the commencement of voter registration verification exercise at the ward levels”, he said.
He said the offer, which would be shared among the 17 officials in the ward, was to motivate them to aggressively mobilize non-PDP members to register with the party.
He also announced the sum of N500, 000 and N300, 000 for the wards with the second and third highest numbers of voters respectively.
Meanwhile, the Anambra chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced the sales of nomination forms to aspirants who have declared interest to run for the governorship election on the platform of the party.
So far, nine nomination forms have been sold to Bart Nwibe, Andy Ubah, Tony Nwoye, George Moughalu, Obinna Uzo, Johnbosco Onunkwo, Paul Chuma, Ada Uchegbu and Chike Obidigbo who have declared interest.
Nwibe, has however unveiled his manifesto for the people of Anambra, stating the challenges citizens of the state are currently facing, what they need, why he is the best man for the job and how he is going to achieve his aims and objectives.
At the event which took place in Lagos, friends of Nwibe hosted him under what they tagged ‘Bart Nwibe Ugo Igbo Gubernatorial Support and Fund Raising.’
Unveiling the manifesto, Nwibe pointed out what he termed a “Ten-Point Development Programme of Excellence for Anambra State.” which spread over the areas of power generation and industrialisation of the state by developing oil and gas based industries to create employment opportunities and huge source of revenue.
Other areas, which he hopes to address includes eradicating wastage in government and integrated infrastructural development, Anambra as agricultural hub, transportation, education, youth development and women empowerment amongst others which he intends to achieve.
According to him, “I have spent the last three months visiting the nooks and crannies of the 326 wards in Anambra State interacting with party faithful and soliciting for their support. The rest now lies on the delegates of the APC who are saddled with the mandate of electing the governorship flag bearer.”
Mrs. Joe Onwudiwe, a friend of Nwibe in her speech described the aspirant as a man of clear vision and strategy, capable of transforming Anambra, being a grassroots politician and reputed to be the only person in the race without an atom of scandals.
