A year after, Akeredolu’s performance generate issues

As the administration of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) clocked one year in office there are mixed feelings about its performance, a subject that has continued to generate issues among stakeholders in the state.

Although, some are of the opinion that Akeredolu has set the ball rolling with various landmark projects, which he had introduced and ultimately going to reposition Ondo in a matter of time, dissenting views show that the APC administration, like the central government, needed to do more than it has demonstrated in the last one year to convince the people of its seriousness and determination to take the state to expected level.

In some peoples perception, the government is slow, clueless and is also considered to have done nothing extraordinary that is capable of boosting the state economically and socially, but the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde, assured that the administration would, in no time, deliver bountiful dividends of democracy to the people. 

Abegunde said this when speaking with The Guardian in Akure, revealing that the present administration had signed seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and five agreements to effect massive industrialisation of the state.He noted that these multi-billion naira projects with both national and international investors would end the age-long massive youth unemployment, lead to huge economic prosperity and other innumerable benefits for the state. 

“Among these is the MoU with Greenfield Asset Limited for the establishment and management of commercial scale poultry farm and powdered egg farm project, valued at N42b and located at Emure-Ile, Owo LGA. “There is the engagement of 18,000 youths for agric value chain opportunities across the state and they will be trained by the foremost agricultural training institute in the country, Federal College of Agriculture Akure (FECA),” he said. 

Abegunde also listed other achievements in agriculture, security, health, education, transportation, sports, labour, workers’ welfare, infrastructural, community and social development projects throughout the three senatorial districts.

According to him, “The prospects are well articulated in the ‘Blueprint to Progress, 2017-2021’ the course of Akeredolu’s administration has put together by the Strategic Development and Policy Implementation Committee (SDPIC) and the 2018 Budget, which is first of its kind in the state. 

“2018 Appropriation Law of N181.424 billion has 46 percent of the fiscal projection set aside as capital expenditure thus making it the highest percentage for capital projects since the creation of the state 42 years ago.”

The SSG urged the citizens to continue to support Akeredolu and his cabinet, so it can deliver the dividends and bounties of democracy to them. “Ours is people-centered government, of the people, by the people and for the people. We are committed to making Ondo State greater and better in all ramifications by harnessing all the available resources and potentials for development,” he said.
