PHED admonishes customers against energy theft, vandalism

The Management of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) has admonished customers in its franchise against energy theft and vandalisation of equipment in 2024.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Benson Uwheru, who spoke during a strategic session with business leaders across the regions, pledged to leave a positive impact in every sphere of customer experience.

Uwheru restated the theme for 2024, ‘A Year of Positive Impact’, during his interactions with staff on his working visit to various regions of the company.

He explained the acronyms ‘p-o-s-i-t-i-v-e’ as signifying: Purposeful living, Optimistic, Self-confidence, Initiative, Trust, Invigorating, Victory, and Excellence.

He enjoined the staff to be purposeful and optimistic while displaying a high-level of self-confidence. He also encouraged employees to deploy new initiatives, build trust, be invigorated, celebrate victories, and deliver excellent service.

Furthermore, the managing director told the staff to ensure they apply every element of the acronym when serving customers.

He expressed optimism that customers will have every reason to commend the company for service delivery based on positive impact.

During an interaction at Obungha, it was gathered that the community was underpaying bills. It was, therefore, informed that the era when customers viewed electricity as a social service was gone. Residents were told that this is an era of accountability because PHED buys electricity at a cost and is currently running at a loss because of sabotage in the area.

Also, at Obuama, in Degema Local Council of Bayelsa State, Chief Asari Dokubo requested collaboration towards increased electricity services.

His request was applauded. He was also assured that the management will explore avenues concerning the matter.
