Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, vowed to punish those behind the resurgence of violence around the Ifon and Ilobu areas of the state.

Adeleke, in a statement by his Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, noted that intelligence revealed that some prominent leaders of the two communities were culpable in the bloodletting.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who confirmed the resurgence of violent attacks in the areas, yesterday, said that there were two casualties and that their bodies had been deposited in the morgue of Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

Alimi appealed to the affected communities to give peace a chance, saying that the crisis was an offshoot of the bloody war that happened in Ifon and Ilobu last year October.
The commissioner said since the government had taken over the land in dispute, some indigenes moved to the boundary between Oyo and Osun states to cause another mayhem over land.

Meanwhile, the state government has imposed 6.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. curfew on the warring two communities.

A statement by Alimi stated that the curfew is with immediate effect.

However, the Osun Police Command said it had arrested two suspects in connection with the unfortunate communal clash.

The Command, while calling for calm over the incident, which led to the disruption of peace, noted that it had deployed proactive measures to restore peace to the community and forestall any further breakdown of law and order.
