SIR: It was a touching moment at Ajio Community during my recent visit to them. Ajio Community is one of the areas in Kwande Local Government Council of Benue State but has for long been neglected by past state administrations. Even though the administration of Gabriel Suswam lately remembered them and provided electricity for them to get their support for his senatorial ambition in the last general elections, the fact still remained that Ajio people lacked basic necessities of life and the one they need most now is a well-equipped functional hospital that can assist in saving lives.

After my interaction with some residents of Ajio, one of them volunteered, used his motorcycle and took me round to see things for myself. During my tour round the community, I visited the only available government primary health care centre but the so-called healthcare centre was as good as death, nothing reasonably was happening there. It would interest you to know that the late Charles Ayede who was the state Senior Media Adviser to the All Progressives Congress, APC, but was assassinated by the political thugs, was an indigene of Ajio.

However, let me use this medium to call on the APC’s administration in the state, under the leadership of Governor Samuel Ortom to remember the people of Ajio, if not for any other thing but for the death of their illustrious son, Ayede, who died fighting for change that now brought APC to a position of authority and leadership. Aside that, the provision of social amenities for the citizenry is the responsibility of the government and it is not negotiable. Therefore, the state government should provide hospital and other necessities of life for the people of Ajio.
