SIR: I read a piece in The Guardian, March 11, 2010, titled “How NECO ripped us off” by one Mohammed Shehu and others. In fact, I am not surprised. If Mohammed Shehu and Cynthia Okafor, based in Minna were short-listed by NECO, I am very sure they would not complain. Please Mallam Mohammed Shehu I would like to ask you these questions: Why didn’t you protest when JAMB invited applications and advised students to check their results on the website, and millions of students were denied admission into universities of their choice despite being qualified? And Cynthia Okafor, why did you refuse to complain when universities sold application forms for post-JAMB examinations, and millions of forms were sold but few students were taken? The form was sold for N5,000 per student, the scratch card was N500 to check results.
Why did Mohammed Abubakar fail to complain when the Nigerian Defence Academy sold millions of forms and scratch cards to candidates to be commissioned? The Nigerian Police Force sold millions of application forms for its cadets’ course, and yet only a few were taken. Colleges of Education and Polytechnics invite students to buy forms and scratch cards but more qualified students are usually denied admission. So, what are you people saying? You claim NECO ripped you off because you paid only N500 to check your name and result?

Cynthia Okafor you refused to tell us your credentials that qualified you to apply for the position of Examination Officer II, the university you attended, dates, and your class of degree. It is very wrong for you to stay at home and start calculating how much NECO made from the sale of scratch cards. Kindly tell us how much Universities, JAMB, WAEC, NDA, Navy, Air Force, Police, Customs, Civil Defence, etc make from the sale of their own scratch cards and application forms. Please leave NECO alone.
