Olu of Warri’s wife offers scholarships to IDPs to mark late father’s birthday

Wife of the Olu of Warri Kingdom, Olori Atuwatse III, yesterday, offered no fewer than a hundred indigent schoolchildren scholarship as part of activities to commemorate the 64th posthumous birthday of the patriarch of the Okunbo’s family, the late Capt. Idahosa Wells Okunbo.

Speaking in Benin City during the birthday, Olori Atuwatse III and eldest daughter of the Okunbo family eulogised her late father, saying the family of the late business mogul and philanthropist deemed it necessary to show love and care for indigent children to get quality education through the scholarship programme.

“This is our own little way to touch lives and transform lives through the scholarship programme we rolled out to schoolchildren in Edo State. My father schooled here in Benin City. My father wasn’t born with a silver spoon. I tell you today you have all it takes to make it and impart your communities.

“We have chosen today to invest in lives and to transform lives. We have touched 100 lives today. We are happy to do this because education is key to the development of all. We know our children would make us proud,” she said.

She noted that over 100 schoolchildren were drawn from selected public primary and secondary schools in Edo State.

According to her, the 100 beneficiaries comprised 20 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the IDP camps in the state.

Others, she said, were drawn from the state public primary and secondary schools namely: Community Primary School, Ogbe Primary School, Edokpolor Primary School, Imaguero Secondary School, George Idah Primary School, Ologbosere Primary School, Itohan Girls’ Secondary School and St. Maria Gorretti Girls’ Secondary School.

Olori Atuwatse III pledged her sustained cooperation and support for the development of children, particularly indigent schoolchildren, saying the support would go along way to provide succour for the children and their families.

Late Idahosa Wells Okunbo, who passed on August 8, 2021 in London, was the father of the Queen Mother and wife of the Olu of Warri Kingdom, Olori Atuwatse III.
