President Bola Tinubu official

.Condemns campaign of calumny against Umahi

A faction of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, applauded President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the resuscitation and enhancement of Nigerian roads, adding that this is evidenced by his unwavering support and endorsement of the initiatives spearheaded by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Ohanaeze, therefore, condemned the campaign of calumny against Umahi, noting that the Igbo group will seek litigation on those behind the N9.3 billion plot.

In a statement in Abakaliki, the Secretary General of Chidi Ibeh-led faction of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, noted that the group stands resolute against unwarranted attacks on Umahi, adding that the President made the best choice on him. The group noted that Ohanaeze will work harmoniously in the pursuit of progress and prosperity for the nation.

According to Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze has meticulously investigated the matter, affirming that every contractor possesses the unassailable right to vdirect the ministry to execute payments to any bank of their choice, subject to rigorous verification of completed contract.

The statement reads: “Ohanaeze, the unwavering voice of the Igbo nation, condemns the feeble and deceitful attempts by corrupt contractors to engage in baseless attacks against the Federal Government.

“These disgruntled contractors, bereft of integrity, have resorted to the despicable tactic of cheap blackmail. It is with utmost certainty that we assert the allegations of a N9.3 billion payment to a microfinance bank are unfounded and unauthorised, as distortedly conveyed by an online newspaper.

“Moreover, we categorically state that Umahi did not approve any N9.3 billion contracts. During the period in question, he faithfully discharged his duty as the Governor of Ebonyi State, diligently serving the interests of the people.”

“It is of paramount importance to emphasise that at the time of the purported payments in June 2023, Umahi held the position of a sitting Senator representing Ebonyi South in the 10th Assembly until August 20, 2023.”
