An oil company, TotalEnergies, has commended the management of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG), saying the competition provides platforms for opportunities and networking.

The Country Communication Manager for TotalEnergies in Nigeria, Charles Ebereonwu, made the commendation while speaking with The Guardian on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of NOGIG 2024, held at Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Speaking on the theme “Empower Wellness, Ignite Productivity,” Charles said that the theme is a nexus that connects fitness and productivity, and the most important aspect of this game is to stay fit to be productive.

He said: “Apart from fitness, this game provides a networking opportunity, for people to leave their place of work and relax a bit, not in the sense of being idle, but living for today’s work.

“The games also provide opportunities for participants to interact with colleagues, exchange contacts, and overall, are in the best interest of our industry.

“People have won a lot of things in the last 4 days. Some people came to do swimming and didn’t perform well in swimming; they ended up winning medals in the relay race, squash, or Scrabble.

“Here in this tournament, the participants discovered that it’s not only one thing they can do; they can still do other things.

“They have learned a lot of resilience. We have a contingent who got injured; we thought that was the end for them, but you see them bounce back and end up winning medals; this game has thrown up a lot of opportunities for potential.”

Speaking on the assessment of the tournament, he said going forward, more preparation is needed in the areas of infrastructure because there are many things here to work on. In Total Energies, safety is a core value.

Ebereonwu added, “We have seen areas of improvement regarding the hygienic conditions of the facilities, ventilation. Some of the indoor games are too hot for people; these are areas of improvement. But overall, people have fun, compete, win, and those losing, they are losing very courageously, happily because it’s a win-win situation.”
