Nigeria’s Osariemen Angel Asein is awaiting an official confirmation by the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon reading aloud attempt by an individual.

Asein began the attempt to set a new world record on February 23, 2024. She has read for over 207 hours, surpassing the current 145-hour record held by Rysbai Isakov from Turkey.

“I am highly elated to congratulate our very own Edo-born Osariemen Angel Asein who is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon reading aloud by an individual,” said Edo state deputy governor Phillip Shaibu on his X handle.

Shaibu further heaped plaudits on Asein, calling her a true embodiment of beauty with brain.

According to Shaibu, she has captured the hearts of a lot of people with her remarkable personality, poise and dedication.

“Your daring spirit has demonstrated that our dear State, Edo, is filled with exceptional youth who can always dare to attain unattainable limits,” Shaibu posted.

“No doubt, consistency with a lot of sacrifices and determination in the face of adversity brought you this far while demonstrating the dominating spirit of Edo throughout your journey.

“Just like every other well-meaning Edolite who has been there for you from the set go, I am proud of your achievement and I believe this will open the minds of many other young, energetic and goal-driven Edo youth to aim high.”

Shaibu added that as Nigerians await the official confirmation and declaration by the world record body, the Guinness Book of Records, he is urging Asein to stay focused as an inspiration to many young women in Edo state and beyond.

He also emphasised that Asein’s journey from Edo to the worldwide limelight symbolizes the dreams and aspirations of numerous talents in the state.
