NIGERIA was among the very few countries that failed to turn in their votes for this year's FIFA World Player of the Year Awards.

All member-associations that comprise FIFA are sent nomination forms for the national team coaches and captains of their teams (men and women) to vote for their top three players. For Nigeria, Super Eagles' coach, Shaibu Amodu, and his skipper, Nwankwo Kanu, alongside the Super Falcons counterparts were expected to join the rest of the world in voting for the Player of the Year.

However, Nigeria was conspicuously missing from the voting list that FIFA published on its website. Surprisingly, Nigeria Football Federation’s Chief Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, said when contacted: “I am not sure of what happened. I will find out and get back to you.”
