Yobe cattle routes demarcation, vaccinations prevent farmers/herdsmen clashes

The Yobe State Government has said that the demarcation of cattle routes and provision of free vaccination and routine clinical treatments of 8.2 million livestock has reduced farmers/herdsmen clashes across the state in the last four years.

The Manager of Yobe Pilot Livestock Development Programme (YPLD), Dr. Mustapha Gaidam, disclosed this yesterday in Damaturu, while briefing journalists on measures of preventing “communal and farmers/herdsmen clashes” in the state.

He said that the curtailments of farmers/herdsmen clashes have also increased the production of over eight million livestock, with the potentials of increased investment potentials in 17 council areas of Yobe state.

In a breakdown of livestock production, he said that there are over two million herds of cattle, three million goats, 2.6 million sheep and 600, 000 camels being raised in various oases of northern part of the state.He noted that the abundance of livestock would provide adequate and regular supply of raw materials for meat and dairy industries in the state.
