The Young Democratic Party (YDP) has restated its commitment to take leadership positions in the country. It said that the Nigerian youths would win forthcoming elections in their various states.

The YDP National Secretary, Mr. Bolaji Oni, stated this at the weekend during the general meeting of the party in Akure, insisting that there was no faction in the party.

Oni said that the zonal meeting, which had party executives and members from Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Oyo and Kwara states in attendance, was held for consultation and consolidation at the grassroots level.

He, however, disclosed that there were some “meddlesome interlopers who had been using the name of the party to make money and dupe innocent citizens of the country.”

According to him: “We are Young Democratic Party, we are not here to siphon money from anybody. We are using a tractor logo with bulb inside as the driver. You can clarify from INEC which is the body regulating our activities.

“Some people are using bulb logo to swindle people under the guise of YDP; we have reported them to the Inspector-General (IG) Police. Anywhere we see them, let’s raise an alarm and have them arrested. As we speak, there had never been any faction; neither would there be any faction in YDP.”

The national secretary said that the party had collaborated with several youth organisations and bodies to re-orientate and motivate youths on active participation in politics to take leadership positions.

“They said we are the leaders of tomorrow and we are all ready. We have also formed our own group though we have some differences we have all resolved. We have all formed a movement and we are taking over. Rather than the usual attitude waiting to collect, everybody is ready to give in service not in cash.

“We have people who have already shown interest for elective positions and picked up our forms. They are all 35 years downward, this shows the youths are ready and they will win.”
