The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, said his administration has put strategies in place to guard against herdsmen attack in the state. The governor assured residents of adequate security.

Wike, who stated this, yesterday, during a radio programme in Port Harcourt, called on the Federal Government to demonstrate seriousness and political will in the fight against herdsmen attack.

“Politics aside, the attacks on innocent citizens by herdsmen is highly condemnable and government should do something urgently to stop it. Security should be a priority of government. Our people cannot be dying like chicken.”

The governor also announced that local council elections would be conducted very soon, adding that funds for the exercise were captured in the 2018 budget.

Wike stated that if he secures a second term, he would not anoint a successor. “When you put in a person who knows nothing about governance, who has no plans or clue on what to do to improve the lives of the citizens, you are only concerned about his loyalty to you. That kills the state and nation.”
