Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused the Inspector General of Police, of issuing a directive for security agents to raid his house in Abuja and possibly plant incriminating materials against him.

The governor who had alleged that the Police is after his life, said the police boss issued the directive on Friday, even before getting a court order on Tuesday this week in Abuja.

Wike told journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday, that he had been reliably informed that the IGP had issued the order for his private house in Asokoro, Abuja to be raided for inexplicable reason. According to him,

“obviously, the court will be wary of searching a governor’s house because of immunity. But to beat that, they did not indicate that it is the Governor of Rivers State House. I am not afraid. If you want to search my house, I live in Port Harcourt, I have my house in the village and I have my house in Old GRA. So, you can come and search”

“I don’t live in Abuja and I cannot keep anything in Abuja. They can go and plant either AK-47 or $1 million and say they found it in the governor’s house. They can even put wristwatches that are so expensive that cost up to $10 million and say; ‘oh! We discovered it from the governor’s private residence.’ And I said I have to let Nigerians know that this is not the way to go about in democracy, rather this is an attempt to truncate democracy”

“If you like, go and plant anything in my house and say that this is what they found. And now, by the time they go there (my house), they will say it is the information they got. They will say it is whistle blower; there is no whistle blower anywhere. If you want to blow whistle, come and blow it in my house here in Port Harcourt. That is where I can keep anything. In Abuja, I don’t stay there.

He further explained that the Rivers state legal team was working on what legal steps to take to recover the $43 million recently recovered from an apartment in Ikoyi, for which he claimed belongs to the Rivers state government.
