Why africa must rethink approach to anti-graft war—Report

For the battle against corruption to yield desired results, African countries have been urged to engage more in improving governance agenda, rather than undertaking the “futile exercise of naming and shaming one another because of the given perception levels of corruption.”

This was stated in a UN Economic Commission for African (UNECA) report, entitled: ‘Measuring Corruption in Africa: The international dimension matters’, which will be launched on April 2, 2016.

The report would be unveiled during the ninth Joint Annual ECA-AUC Conference of Ministers (CoM2016), also known as the Africa Development Week, taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to the fourth African Governance Report (AGR-IV), current approaches for measuring corruption are predominantly perception-based, which completely ignore the international dimension of corruption in Africa. The report also identifies weak governance institutions as one of the main determinants of corruption.
