Whoever is behind Melaye’s recall is a disgrace, says CCPN

The Coalition of Concerned Professionals of Nigeria (CCPN), Plateau State Chapter, has decried two assassination attempts carried out on the life of Senator Dino Melaye.

CCPN said nobody is interested in what the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello does with his state as he is in charge, “But the situation has become worrisome as banditry and murder seem to fast become the order of the day..”

A press statement made available to journalists yesterday in Jos said the macabre dance reached its apex when Melaye was faced with a recall process.

“This move was hatched and ignited by the fact that Melaye has been very vocal in the senate to the admiration of his colleagues. The Senator’s alleged sin, which did not go down well with the Kogi Governor, was that the senator was sympathetic to the plight of the workers who have not been paid their salaries for 15 months.”

“Again, one other thing that might infuriate the governor was the allegation that Melaye must have been behind the governor’s alleged double registration palaver which he quickly dismissed as very spurious as he claimed that on the day in question, he was on his way to Dubai, adding that it must have been his ghost who did the double registration,” the statement added.

According to the senator, on the day of the second assassination attempt, he was addressing his supporters when assassins started shooting at the crowd.

The police were able to gun down the ringleader of the killer squad, which the state governor claimed to be a student of the polytechnic.

It argued that the recall saga surprised the people where signatures were said to have been garnered for Melaye’s recall because they contended that those who allegedly signed the recall documents were more than the registered voters.

Recently, socio-cultural and pressure groups under the aegis of Bunu Youth Forum while reacting to the recall said they never signed any recall papers.
