We have not selected monarch of Orosuen, says regent of Okere Urhobo

The Otota of Okere Urhobo kingdom in Warri, Dr. Wilson Omavowan Eboh, has disclosed that no monarch has been selected for Orosuen kingdom.

The regent made the clarification at a press conference at the palace of the Orosuen, while reacting to a media report that a successor had been chosen.

He explained that there was no time a meeting was held to select a monarch for Ososuen, adding that only the king makers of the kingdom have the right to select a king, according to the chieftaincy declaration of the ancient Urhobo Kingdom.

According to him, members of the committee who were said to have selected a new monarch for the kingdom were not traditional rulers in the kingdom.

He added that it is only a sitting monarch who has the right to appoint king. He stressed that it was the second time he was addressing the press on the false selection of a monarch in the kingdom.

The regent explained that an alleged masterminds of the media failed report failed in their attempt to challenge the Okere Urhobo kingdom Traditional Chieftaincy Declaration in Suit no: W/525/2014 and W/197/2012.

He also expressed disappointment over the alleged role of the Secretary to the Okere Urhobo Tradtional Council on the matter.

He, however, announced that activities for the selection of a new ruler started in August 24, 2017 and would climax on October 22, when a new Orosuen would be announced.

The regent urged the state government the general public to ignore the publication, which he described as false and baseless.

The President of Urhobo National Youth Council, Festus Ogherebuo and the chairman of Okere Urhobo Development Movement, Cyril Eboh, also condemned the false publication, which they said could cause crisis.

Those who attended the briefing were George Amurun who is also the Isierera of Uvwie kingdom, Emmanuel Ono Okumagba, the President General of Okere Urhobo kingdom, a political leader in Warri Urhobo, Bright Okumagba and Emmanuel Omovie.

Others were Odjuvwu Okumagba, Akpos Okumagba, Jude Igherebuo, Onoriode Okoh, Giwa Iyara and son of one-time Orosuen.
