We are using Obasanjo’s masterplan to develop railway transport, says Amaechi

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said the current administration was implementing the masterplan introduced by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for the development of Nigerian Railway Transport.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said the current administration was implementing the masterplan introduced by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for the development of Nigerian Railway Transport.

Amaechi while fielding questions from journalists yesterday in Abuja, said the federal government was currently working on Lagos-Ibadan rail project adding that the contract for Ibadan-Kaduna and Kaduna to Kano rail projects has been awarded. He said hopefully, the China Nexim Bank would approve the loan to commence construction adding that they are negotiating for the contract for Port Harcourt to Maiduguri, which is about 2,000km. Amaechi however debunked rumors that armed robbers attack Abuja-Kaduna rail at the Rijana Community, stating that there are armed policemen in all the coaches.

Furthermore, Amaechi inaugurated the governing boards of agencies, tasking them to shun corruption, as they would be held accountable for their actions.

The Boards of Agencies that were inaugurated include the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) and Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT).

Amaechi while inaugurating the board members yesterday, tasked members to prevail on the agencies to speed up the completion of projects under their purview, charging the members of Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to elect a chairman and Vice immediately.
