We are still being persecuted for backing Sheriff – Ekiti PDP members
• State Publicity Secretary Denies
Some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti, yesterday, accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of using the State Working Committee (SWC) to persecute them over their relationship with the defunct Senator Ali Modu Sheriff faction.
The leaders, mainly from Ijero Local Government, alleged they have been on suspension since March 23, 2016 for supporting Sheriff against the chairman of the National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Fayose’s favourite.
The former PDP Local Government Secretary in Ijero, Olurotimi Akande, said this yesterday, while alleging that 50 members were suspended in the council under the guise of anti-party activities.
They claimed they were still being sidelined by the SWC in the running of the party in spite of an order by the PDP National Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus, and the chairman of the Reconciliation Committee and Bayelsa State governor, Chief Seriake Dickson, that the Sheriff faction should be reabsorbed unconditionally.
Another PDP chieftain in the council, who identified himself as Idowu, said the only way they can support the party in the July 14 poll is for the NWC to conduct a free, fair and credible primary.
Reacting to the allegation, however, the state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jackson Adebayo, said it was all lies, adding that nobody was suspended on the basis of supporting Modu Sheriff.
