UNILAG alumni unveil shopping complex, to build 500-bed hostels
As part of efforts to meet the infrastructural needs at the University of Lagos, its alumni association has inaugurated the newly renovated shopping complex in the institution’s premises.
The 18-shop complex, located at the Moremi market, has now been changed to the UNILAG Alumni complex, which will house traders with the aim of meeting the market needs of students and the management.
The project, which was handed over to the institution’s management during the week, by the outgoing administration, according to its national president, Dr. Sonny Kuku, was paramount to enhancing the welfare of the school.
Speaking at the commissioning, the chairman said the association has also concluded plans to build a four-storey 500-bed hostel, to reduce the congestion of students in the available hostels, as there are about 35,000 students, with no adequate accommodation for them.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, lauded the alumni association for its gesture. “The university belong to the alumni and this is part of their contribution to its development. The alumni have assisted in so many other ways, they support the university for the best graduating student, the undergraduate students with the highest GPA and are also involved in other projects within the university.”
