SPECIAL Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations on violence against children, Santos Pais, has commended the Federal Government’s launch of Nigeria Data Survey on Violence Against Children.

Unveiling the first national representative data on the prevalence of sexual, physical, and emotional violence among children in the country, findings from the survey were released in Abuja, last week.

Being the first West African country and the ninth in the world to conduct a comprehensive survey, this creates an avenue for Nigeria to respond to the recommendations from the 2006 United Nations (UN) study on violence against children, so as to create a platform for the implementation of a national data collection and research to inform policy actions to end violence against children.
