Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, yesterday commiserated with the family of the late HID Awolowo, describing the matriarch as a rallying point for all Nigerians.

‘I, on behalf of the people of Ebonyi State, commiserates with the Awolowo family on the death of their matriarch, Chief HID Awolowo, on Saturday, September 19,” Umahi said in his condolence message, which was signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Emma Anya.

“No doubt, her passage is demoralizing, because it took place only 61 days to November 25,when the world would have joined her family to celebrate her 100th birthday.

“We must however give glory to God because He gave her the ability to live a worthy life. It is a known fact that Mama, even in her old age, was a rallying point, not only in South West politics but also across the nation.

“Her husband and the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, once described Mama HID as his “Jewel of inestimable value,” but I state here that Nigeria has lost that same jewel that Chief Awolowo left for us.

“To my brother, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and the good people of Ogun State, please accept my condolences.”
