UI ex- Vice-Chancellor, Bamiro shot by suspected kidnappers in Ibadan

A former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, was shot by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

A former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, was shot by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.Bamiro who was shot in the leg was waylaid around 7:00p.m. at Ring Road area of Ibadan.

Bamiro, a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, was the Vice Chancellor ( VC) between 2005 and 2010. He was succeeded by Prof. Isaac Adewole, who is now Minister of Health.

He was said to have been driven away by the gunmen but the vehicle stopped due to the security device installed in it.When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Adekunle Ajisebutu confirmed the incident but said it was a case of failed kidnap attempt.

Ajisebutu explained that the suspected kidnappers were trying to kidnap Bamiro when policemen arrived the scene.They immediately took to their heels.

Ajisebutu disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Sam Adegbuyi, has since instructed the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to commence investigation into the matter.Bamiro was thereafter taken to the University College Hospital (UCH) for treatment.
