It was a bloody Christmas for the residents of Okemesi in Ekiti West Local Council of Ekiti State as armed robbers attacked an old generation bank, where two people were killed.

The incident that turned the ancient town into mourning mood and made the youths to cancel their Christmas party occurred around 5pm on December 24.

A private security guard identified as Mathew and a 53-year old carpenter, Ayo Alawode were killed during the operation that lasted over an hour.

The 9-man gang that disrupted the festive mood of the community shot sporadically into the air on Odo Ese street , where they halted commercial activities throughout the period their operation lasted.

Those in the market and other public institutions scampered in different directions, while the passers-by took refuge in nearby shops.

Stray bullets hit no fewer than ten persons during the operation. They were said to be receiving medical treatment at a teaching hospital in one of the neighbouring states.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed that two persons died during the daylight robbery.

He said that the robbers would be apprehended soon.

That is the hackneyed language we hear all the time. Why can’t the Police confront these idiots and scatter their brains with bullets. Now two innocent lives were wasted and they escaped with un-quantified amount of money, and by the time the fools are arrested, they have enjoyed their loot and may even not captured. A good management practice is avert problem instead of managing it.
