For almost an hour, an articulated vehicle burnt helplessly near a Lagos State Fire Service station at Toyota Bus Stop, along the Oshodi-Isolo Expressway, yesterday. Surprisingly, there was no effort by the staff of the station to put out the blaze.

Relief only came when officers of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) showed up. But it was too late. An eyewitness said the driver did not know his vehicle was in flames until he was alerted. There was however little he could do before the fire spiraled out of control.

Another eyewitness said an officer at the fire station had fetched a handheld extinguisher, which was no match for the fire.Shortly after the LASEMA team had put out the flames, a Lagos State Fire Service truck with the number CO5 showed up.

A LASEMA official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the agency had received a distress call. The incident disrupted traffic on both sides of the busy road.
