Tragedy averted in Imo as fuel tanker falls

tanker-stainlessTRAGEDY was averted in the early morning of Wednesday at Umuapu community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Council of Imo State when a tanker loaded with petroleum product slipped off the road and fell, leading to the product to leak to the environs in different directions.

According to sources, the vehicle was coming from the neighbouring Rivers State when it negotiated the bad road and lost control.

The villagers gathered at the spot and started scooping the fuel that coming out from the tank of the vehicle.

Repeatedly, the Hot F.M radio station alerted the police and other security agencies to arrive the scene and prevent the scooping of the product to avoid loss of lives from any fire incident.

As at the time of filing this report, there was no incident of casualties as a result of the tanker collapse.

It would be recalled that a similar incident that resulted in explosion and heavy inferno, burning and killing about 70 people beyond recognition, happened in Onitsha, Anambra State some months ago.
