TPG says in three years alone Fulani Herdsmen killed 1,878 persons in Benue in cold blood

An Association of Tiv Academia otherwise known as Tiv Professional Group, TPG, has said between 2013 and 2016 alone, the Fulani herdsmen killed 1, 878 men, Women and children in cold blood from 12 local government areas of Benue state.

An Association of Tiv Academia otherwise known as Tiv Professional Group, TPG, has said between 2013 and 2016 alone, the Fulani herdsmen killed 1, 878 men, Women and children in cold blood from 12 local government areas of Benue state. 

The group in a press conference yesterday in Makurdi led by its chairman, Professor Zacharys Anger Gundu, in Makurdi the Benue state capital, also averred that another 750 persons were seriously wounded while 200 were declared missing. 

“Over 99, 427 households were affected in venue and propetery worth billions of naira destroyed through a brutal earth-scorch strategy.According to him, Taraba a neighbouring local government with Benue also lost more than 1157 persons due to herdsmen attack in 7 local governments of the state including, Bali, Donga, Gashaka, Gassol Ibi, Takum and Wukari, within the same period. 

More than 24, 562 were displaced and 171 Christian places of worship were destroyed in addition to whole settlement and farm produce.He said in Nasarawa state where the Tiv and Agatu’s are indigenes and reside in large numbers, over 4000 persons including children were murdered rendering over 100, 000 homeless. 

The group also said states directly affected by Fulani terrorism have lost on average about 47% of their internally generated revenue. Professor Gundu stated that, the group was strongly behind restructuring including the establishment of state police, and promised to work with other groups to ensure that the restructure agenda is achieved as soon as possible.
