Total, AWACIO empower youths, women in Abuja

As part of effort to curb crime in the society, Total E&P Nigeria Limited in partnership with Aids for Women Children and Adolescent International Organization (AWACIO) has empowered no fewer than 50 women and youths in different skills acquisition programme.

The Chief Executive Officer of AWACIO, Dr. Claudia Okeke disclosed that they went through six weeks of intensive training in an effort to enable them impact their community.

As part of effort to curb crime in the society, Total E&P Nigeria Limited in partnership with Aids for Women Children and Adolescent International Organization (AWACIO) has empowered no fewer than 50 women and youths in different skills acquisition programme.

The Executive General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Total Nigeria, Mr. Vincent Nnadi, at the graduation programme of the youths in Gosa community Federal Capital Teritory (FCT), stressed that skills acquisition remain the bedrock to get the country out of recession.

According to him, white-collar jobs are no longer available, hence the need for youth to continue to acquire skills so as to sustain themselves and also contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.

He disclosed that though about 50 people were trained but 31 entrepreneurs are being graduated after undergoing livelihood training in tailoring, tiling, hair dressing, cable and CCTV installation, catering and pastry making.

The Chief Executive Officer of AWACIO, Dr. Claudia Okeke disclosed that they went through six weeks of intensive training in an effort to enable them impact their community.

She said, “This training programme is a conscious effort by Total and AWACIO to ensure that the youths acquire skills and also pass it on to other members of the community so that a larger number of people in the community would be self sustaining.”

Disclosing that AWACIO has been supporting youths and women in different communities in the FCT for the past six years, Okeke, they have worked in Abaji, Kwali and Buhari Area council. She said there are still plans to scale up interventions to as many communities as possible.

She said their intention was to transform any community they intervene in making as many of the youths in the community self sustaining adding that this would help reduce crimes and militancy in the country.

The participants were presented with equipments such as tailoring Machine, head dryers, locally made baking ovens, tiling instrument, and CCTV installation equipment.
