Tor Tiv seeks forgiveness for man who sat on royal chair during coronation 

The Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, has appealed to the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Adam Onum, to activate the process of pardoning and releasing the man, Stephen Nyitse, who sat on his royal chair during his coronation a year ago.
 
The monarch made the appeal when the leadership of Benue State judiciary led by the chief judge paid him a courtesy call at the palace in Gboko. He directed the legal adviser to the Tiv Area Traditional Council, Chief Edward Ashiakaa (SAN) to apply to Prerogative of Mercy Advisory Council to consider his appeal and recommend to the governor, Samuel Ortom, for Nyitse’s clemency and pardon.
 
He expressed satisfaction with the manner members of the judiciary have sustained the integrity of their calling by always standing for the truth at all times, though he, however, expressed displeasure at the level of impunity and lawlessness in the land leading to criminal activities, including attacks on residences of judges by miscreants, urging them not to be discouraged but maintain firm stand against injustice.

Earlier, the chief judge said they were in Tor Tiv’s palace to seek his royal blessing and cooperation in carrying out their constructional responsibilities as well as to commiserate with him over the gruesome number of his people.

He added that on their part, they would continue to be fair to all because if the judiciary slacks, the society will become chaotic. Onum assured that action would be taken to ensure the release of the strange man who sat on the royal throne.
