Suspected herders invade Kogi communities
Some suspected herdsmen have reportedly attacked two communities in Kogi West senatorial district, killing no fewer than five persons in the early hours of yesterday.
It was reliably gathered that the assailants invaded two Tiv settlements of Ilai Mopamuro and Ido -Gbede in Ijumu council area of the state around 4:00a.m. on Monday.
Sources disclosed that the armed attackers, numbering over 50, stormed the communities with AK47 rifles and opened fired on the people.
According to a report, they equally damaged goods worth millions of naira and stole foodstuff.
The Administrator of Mopamuro Local Council, Moses Sunday David, condemned the incident, noting:
“I am surprised that the attack came barely a week after we had a peace/security meeting at the Elulu’s palace to forestall this kind of unfortunate occurrence.”
The Administrator of Ijumu council area council and state Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) chairman, Taofik Isah, pledged to work with security agencies with a view to safeguarding the people and their property.
David, however, said he had contacted relevant agencies to tackle the menace.
The Police Public Relations Officer, William Ayah, said the command was yet to receive any information on the alleged invasion.
