SPAR, an international retail chain originating from Holland, has officially opened its doors in Abuja, located at the Ceddi Plaza in the Central Business District of the Federal Capital Territory at the weekend.

At the ceremony, which attracted shoppers in their hundreds, it was all pomp, fun-filled excitement, music and gifts galore as former international footballer and ambassador for sports and tourism, John Fashanu, cut the tape to officially mark the opening of the store.

Excited shoppers competed to make the list of first 500 customers to benefit from SPAR reward of bag full of freebies for those who would spend N3,000 and above. The store was richly stocked with a wide array of products, ranging from grocery, bakery, butchery, fruits and vegetables, hot meals, wine and spirits, fast moving consumer goods, consumer electronics, large and small home appliances, mobile phones, watches and jewelry.

One interesting innovation introduced by SPAR to alleviate the hardship of shoppers is a credit scheme, which allows for a flexible payment plan to shop and pay later at the shoppers’ convenience. It is the Easy Monthly Installment Payment scheme known as SPAR Pay Easy.

Explaining the scheme, SPAR’s spokesman, Mr. John Goldsmith, said given the economic scenario, SPAR wanted to make purchase of consumer items easy with SPAR Pay Easy scheme.

“Under the scheme, customers can buy their choice product and chose to pay over three, six, nine or a 12-month period. The scheme is open to any individual, employed or self-employed, and business organizations.”
