THE government of Spain has announced its support for Nigeria in its effort to fight off the Boko Haram scourge. Spain also called for the support of the international community to help Nigeria and the region affected.

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, the country condemned “the murders carried out by the terrorist group Boko Haram in the town of Najba, Nigeria, of at least 78 people, including children”.

While conveying its grief to the families of the deceased, and to the people of Nigeria, the government of Spain stated that atrocities such as this should elicit international reaction, especially from regional and sub regional organizations to present a united and supportive front for the fight against the terrorist group.

“One step in this direction, which the government of Spain applauds was the adoption of the African Union Peace and Security Council, of the concept of operations for the multinational force in the fight against Boko Haram. The efforts of countries in the region against terrorism deserve the support of the international community. Spain, in its capacity as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, is working towards this goal”, the statement said.
