Siblings remanded for allegedly strangling father to death

A Kano Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Audu Bako yesterday remanded two brothers in prison for allegedly killing their father.

Auwal Adamu, 26, and Rabiu Adamu, 27, were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril for culpable homicide for allegedly strangling their 55-year-old father, Adamu Gamji.

The accused, who hail from Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State, are facing two count charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to section 97 and 221 of the penal code respectively. The prosecutor, Inspector Pogu Lale, told the court that a Good Samaritan reported the case to the police on September 30, 2017.

Narrating the incident, Lale said the police gathered that on September 24, around 6:00p.m. the defendants allegedly conspired with their six other siblings who are at large and strangled their biological father to death in their compound.

He reported that the defendants suspected their father to be responsible for the death of three members of their family and also the sickness of their brother, one Sale Adamu. When the charges were read to the defendants, they pleaded not guilty. The case was adjourned to November 6, 2017.

Meanwhile, two brothers, Charles and Daniel Udom have been arrested by the Lagos State police command for allegedly defiling their neighbours’ 10-year-old and 13-year-old daughters. They were arrested at No. 16 Aina Street, Shogunle, Oshodi on Sunday, after the victims told their mothers what the suspects did to them.

It was gathered that the suspects, who are currently in detention at the police command headquarters in Ikeja, lured their victims on different days and forcefully had canal knowledge of the minors.

According to the police, Charles asked his 10-year-old old victim to bring a bottle of beverage to his room, a request she innocently obeyed. But when the victim got to his room, he allegedly dragged her in, raped her and gave her N100 in a bid to silence her.

Few days later, Daniel, it was gathered, did a similar thing to another neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter. The younger victim, it was gathered first told her mother, who raised the alarm, prompting the teenager to open up about her own molestation.

In another development, the police have arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his friend in a fight over money at Ire-Akari, Isolo area of Lagos. According to an eyewitness, the accused pulled a scissors and stabbed his friend over disagreement in the theft of N19,000.

“The suspect said he kept his money inside his shoe and slept with his friend in the room, but when he woke up the next day, he couldn’t find the shoe and his friend. He later saw his friend putting on the shoe, but when he asked about the money hidden inside, he denied it and an argument ensued.”
